Painting on canvas

This week I finally made something out of the big canvas I've had stored in my office for a long time. I put the canvas on the floor and walked around it "throwing" on paint in different earth tones. It was so much fun! The final painting makes me want to eat chocolate. I hung it in the guest room, so I guess I'll have to place a box of chocolate in there too when we have guests.

I found these spiders I have illustrated from different projects. It's fun to see them next to each other like this. They're all created with different mediums; acrylic paints, digital art and ink and watercolors.

This is one of the sketches I made for the book "At School". It's a few years since I drew this and it was one of my first illustrations of a crowd. I remember it was a big challenge. You can read more about "At School" in my book section.

A blank wall is very useful

Having a big blank wall in the office is very useful. This is how my wall looks like when I'm working on a project. When I'm planning the illustrations for a book I hang all the pages next to each other to see how they fit together.

Beach Office

One of the great things about working freelance is that you can do your work from wherever you want. The other day my office was really hot and I just couldn't seem to get much done. I packed up my project and moved it to the beach nearby. And guess what - I got A LOT done while I was there. The next time you feel your productivity is fading, try working in a different location. It really helps!

Playground

This is a part of a sketch I did for the book Lights, Music & Me: Jesus Loves Me. Drawing a playground is a challenge, but also a lot of fun! You can see how the final illustration turned out here.

Even small ones can become giants

I've been wanting to make some illustrations in a board book style lately, and when I saw this week's Illustration Friday topic "Giant" I came up with this idea. It's made with a combination of Adobe Illustrator and Corel Painter. What do you think? Could it work for a board book?
